The Log Canoes of the Chesapeake Bay

A trip to St. Michael’s on the Chesapeake was in order to go and shoot the Log Canoe regatta. The images I shot of the Log Canoes will go in to a new coffee table book we are working on with Rizzoli called SAILING AMERICA.
Some of these boats were built in the late 1800’s and are still racing. They love to pile on the canvas and balance it all out with many guys out on the boards for ballast (these are centerboarders with no weighted keels). Once the breeze goes over 10 knots the fun begins. Here is a short little video that Tenley shot of the action.XS Sailing
